いまのところ、ウェブ上の主体はアメリカ的である。楽観的、自由至上主義、反権威、反省しない、テクノロジーフェチ・・・サイバーリバタリアンなどと言われる。中国政府がグーグルに脅威を持つのは「小さな漏洩」ではなくウェブにおいて人民がアメリカ化教育されることへの警戒だろう。

なぜウェブ上の主体はアメリカ的なのだろうか。発祥がアメリカだから？ウェブがフロンティアだから？多民族だから？ウェブでは情報がコピーされることで自由化される？

いまのところ、このウェブ・アメリカーナに対して異文化圏を作りえたのは日本のケータイだけではないだろうか。ドコモが奇跡的に起こしたこの「ガラパゴス」では、主体は全く異なる風俗を生きている。当然、世界を作る気などない。保守的、反省的、つながりを求める。むしろ近代的な主体に近いように見える。
