俺はニコニコ動画を「ジャンル」、初音ミクやVocaloidを「ツール」と捉えていたからわからなかったんだ。ニコニコ動画は「ジャンル」ではなく「メディア」であり、初音ミクが「ジャンル」だということ。そう考えると非常に単純に理解できたような気になってきた。

OLさんがテレビドラマを見て、その中から気に入った主題歌のCDを買うように。ロック好きがロッキンオンを読んで気になったバンドのCDを買うように。ニコ動ユーザーは、アップされた初音ミク音源から気に入ったものを支持する。それだけの話である、と。

で、数百万回の再生に参加した人のうち7万人弱がCD購入に至ったわけで。青山テルマの、着うた600万DLでアルバム販売数37万枚という数と比較して、この数は、その数百万という数がのべ数であること、無料であることを織り込めば、概ね妥当な線と考えていいんじゃないでしょうか。

正直、Vocaloidのあの声はまだ違和感あるんだけど、でも否定はしたくない。否定してしまうと、それは80年代の自分が死ぬほど嫌っていた「生音以外音楽じゃない」と息巻いていた、バンド原理主義な人たちとまったく同じ種類の人になってしまうから。
